Whoever you are, wherever you’re from, whatever you’re studying

Welcome!

Since Christ Church began three years ago it has always welcomed students with the aim of:

  • Teaching students how to understand and handle the Bible themselves so they can study it independently and apply it to their lives at university.
  • Helping students to both know how and feel confident to share the Gospel with their friends.
  • Building relationships between students and non-students, families, internationals and pretty much anyone else.
  • Providing love, encouragement and support in order to help increase your passion for Jesus.

As well as our main weekly meeting (see the meetings section of the site) which is all suitable for students, Christ church offers students the oppertunity of one to one discipleship. This involves meeting with one of the student workers for an hour or so a week to study the Bible, share, pray and encourage each other. Alternatively, there is the option of meeting together with a student worker and a few fellow students to study the bible in a small group.

One of the important things about Christ Church is that students are as fully part of the church as any other groups - they get the oppertunity to host meetings, pray, contribute musically, cook for a Wednesday night meeting (great practice for when you 'grow up' and want to have dinner parties)be involved in some of the decision making of the Church and generally get involved.

But it's not all fun and games - sometimes we get down to the hard work of:

Having baptisms in the sea...

Three students being baptised in the sea

What I love about Christ Church is that I can be open and honest with everyone. Being a small church, we know each other well - we really do feel like family! It’s brilliant being able to study the Bible togPeople watching the baptismsether, and to encourage each other. In the two years I’ve been involved in Christ Church, I feel like I’ve really grown in my relationship with God through studying His word, and a few months ago I made the step of being baptised in the sea – which was awesome! Being able to make a public declaration of my faith in Jesus in front of lots of my friends was amazing!”

And reading breaks...

Sitting on a log during the reading break

I joined the church two and half years ago. Almost as long as I have been here in Brighton. I flew here from the far east, Korea. Since I joined this church, it has been like having a second home in the UK. This is an amazing experience for me, as someone who had to start from nothing and was somewhat uneasy as a foreign student. I have been given so much love and such a fun life through this Church family. Come and taste!

Not to mention dressing up...

Dressing up for a game of 'hunt the leader'

"What was my student experience like at Christ Church? well... It all began with a lolly. I was offered one attached to a flyer by one of the students workers advertising a Church that met at 7pm in the evening - I'm in I thought. To describe the amount I have been able by God's grace to bless the church with and to have been blessed by the church with in such a short space would not do justice to the reality of the situation. Instead I'll simply say that Christ church has fed me both Biblically and with probably hundreds of meals. Loved me, both with the truth when I needed to hear it and a shoulder when I needed to cry on it. And finally has helped me to understand who I want to be for the rest of my life..."
