We asked a few of our members who they are and why they like Christ church.... If you see any of them at any of our meetings, then feel free to talk to them about what they have said...

John

I am John Taylor, married to Mandy with two adult daughters.

I originally trained as an Actuary then spent 20 years as a financial
adviser based up in London.  I now work in both fields on a part time basis.
I am also a volunteer for local charities providing debt advice and as
treasurer and giving other financial services.

We moved to Brighton from central Sussex in April 2007 and joined
Christchurch straight
away. We were looking for a church that was a strong and welcoming community
seeking to serve Brighton and share the good news of Jesus. The fact that is
does it in an interesting and unusual way was a bonus, but I have come to
see this is essential in order to reach out in new and intriguing ways into
our city.

I particularly enjoy the strength of community in Christchurch, people
really care for each other and try to support and build each other up.  I
also usually find the bible teaching stimulating, practical and challenging.
It is an exciting church to belong to, especially as we keep getting new
members  and developing the community resulting in change to the dynamics
and way we do things.

Shona

My name is Shona and I’m a second year student at Sussex University studying Anthropology and Development Studies as a joint degree. I grew up in Asia but have been living in Kent for the last 11 years. I have been coming to Christ Church since starting university, I choose to become a member because it is a small international church which actively seeks God’s word and is keen to reach out to others in love.

I enjoy being surrounded by a group of people who have their eyes centred on God and seek to live lives which reflect his glory in their loving and generous giving of themselves. It is a place where I can come and learn more about God but also be challenged as to my own outlook and have an opportunity to discuss the Bible with others. I also like the fact that because it is a small church I can be actively involved.

Sameer

Hi, I'm Sameer. I study undergraduate-level medicine and live in sunny Brighton! I'm Kenyan born-and-bred, but now live happily in Brighton.

I've been a member of Christ Church for just over 2 years now. I believe God lovingly led me to Christ Church. I wasn't a Christian until early 2006, and Christ Church was instrumental in showing me God's love. I was taught faithfully and patiently about Jesus Christ, from God's word - the Holy Bible. Right from day one, I felt at peace in the midst of the church. I've seen people from all walks of life and all imaginable personal situations come in and be a part of us. I've seen God work in their lives in such a powerful way, and seen the way we all get along as a family, in the common love and knowledge of Christ, son of God. The second thing I like about Christ Church is the overwhelming spirit of giving, whereby each member joyfully makes the most of their God-given gifts to serve one-another in the church. Each with their unique gifts - good cooks, musicians, students, married couples and families in a community that focuses on truth of Jesus Christ's message of salvation to the world.

Jo

I’m Jo. I live with my family near Fiveways and Preston Park. I came to Brighton in 1988 to study at Brighton Polytechnic and ended up staying. I was teaching but I am having a break from it and have two young children that keep me busy. We joined Christ Church Brightonwhen it started in June 2005. We wanted to go to a local bible based church. I love the fact that people care for each other and that many people take a genuine interest in me and my family. I really enjoy learning God’s word and put them into practice, the sermons are Bible based and encourage us and challenge us as well. It is good that it seeks to be very visitor friendly. We aim to explain things, not use jargon, and there are chances to ask questions after the talks.

Alfie

My name is Alfie Nsobya. I am a Bus driver and I work for Brighton & Hove bus company. I  am from Uganda in East Africa. I have been a member of Christ Church for over  a year now.

Why did I become member of this church? - The love and care in Christ Church is so real ever since I joined up to today and it is just getting more and more strong. The teachings from the Bible is so uplifting and encouraging.

One to one teaching has also helped me to understand and grow in faith in God. The cloud of love every single time I meet with others - let it be Sunday morning, Circus Circus, Salvation Army or in people’s homes, makes me feel loved and that’s why I do not want to miss any opportunity to meet when I have a chance.

Roz

My name is Roz.

I work for the Learning and Skills Council as a 14-19 Policy and Planning Advisor based in Brighton.  The LSC funds non traditional education for young people (i.e. not schools but apprenticeships) and adult education.  I help to manage a big budget and I keep abreast of policy changes in the field of 14-19 as well as organizing events and meetings. I have been coming to Christ Church since summer last year.  I was attracted to the idea of Church in a pub where Christians spend time mingling in society rather than holding themselves apart and being disapproving which the stereotypes suggest.  The welcome I received when I came to Christchurch was overwhelming with several people texting me, calling, meeting over the summer, giving me a lift to church etc. I like the people that go to Christ Church - there are many like minded people in the congregation.  I have made several good friends and there is always the potential to get to know others better.  I like the fact that the church is mainly young people in their 20s and 30s with some students and one fantastic older couple.  We are praying to become more diverse and to remain inclusive including of people different from ourselves.  There are some families too which is great.  The people make Christ Church what it is: open, welcoming and fun to be in.  It is also a biblical church where the teaching is clear and faithful, and there are monthly prayer meetings.   There are 3 meetings (“services”) per week including a Wednesday one to help everyone to find time to come along.
